Inaugural Meeting of Our Group

Inaugural Meeting of Our Group

Our first ever gathering took place in a restaurant at the corner of Szabad Sajtó utca and Váci utca centrally located in Budapest on 22 February 2002. The following people came: Zoltán Buzády, Csaba Fehér, Zsolt Lengyel, Balázs Romhányi and myself, Éva Számely. The way I found these people was quite a story. When I moved back to Budapest after several years of studying and working abroad I was searching for people I could connect with.

I phoned LSE’s Central Alumni Office to ask them to help me get in touch with LSE alumni living in Hungary. I got the answer that there was not an organised group as such, but they would be really grateful if I could set it up and they would help me to do so. Well, I was eager to find people so I gave it a go. So the Alumni Office sent me a list of names with postal addresses saying these people had given these during their times at the LSE. You can imagine.

I wrote to each address and from the say thirty or forty addresses I received some eight or ten replies… For a long time of arranging finally, the five of us actually met for a “strategic discussion” and had actually a good chat on how nice it would be to organise various professional and social events to help us keep in touch…
