Pre-departure event 2014

Pre-departure event 2014

The end of August is always a special time of the year for our alumni group, as we are usually busy making plans for the coming term. Furthermore, it is also the time when we hold our annual pre-departure event, one of the most important events in the life of our group. It is an occassion where perspective students can meet each other and LSE alumni.

Building on last year's success, and benefiting from the great generosity of the British Embassy of Budapest, our event was held in the marvellous Old Banking Hall of the UK Embassy. It was the ambassador himself, His Excellency Jonathan Knott, who was kind enough to be the host of our event. We also had the privilege to welcome the ambassador of Hungary to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Péter Szabadhegy - a fellow LSE alumnus as well. The ambassadors both talked about the importance of keeping in touch with each other, emphasising the crucial role alumni groups can play in cultivating British-Hungarian relations.

Last but not least, we should not forget about the participants themselves: the perspective LSE students heading to London to commence their studies at the School. It is always a great joy to meet them and to discuss with them all the different aspects of the LSE experience. This year was no exception, as we had the good fortune of meeting a hugely talented and ambitious crop of perspective students -future LSE alumni.  As for our current alumni members, these events provide always an excuse to share our best tales and memories about our own London experiences. It is no wonder that the reception at the Embassy was followed by an informal gathering in one of the nearby restaurants, with discussions running late into the evening - also part of the very best traditions of ours for this special occassion.
